Watermelon Lemonade

August 3rd, 2010 | Beverage, Fruit, Quick | Christi | 9 Comments

One of my fondest memories of my childhood stay in Korea involve munching on crisp violet-hued watermelon slices on the front yard of my grandma’s country house. We would buy the perfectly round Korean fruit from the ridiculously loud farmer trucks that drove by everyday, loaded with fresh picked watermelon from the local farm.

Even though I’ve never seen a violet watermelon here in California, it’s still a wonderful way to spend breezy summer afternoons out on the patio. To take a little bit over the top, I’ve added a cool lemonade twist to it. By all means, tweak the amount of sugar and lemon to taste, since each melon will vary in sweetness. All around a very healthy refreshing summertime drink. Enjoy with a wedge of fresh lemon on your glass. Lean back and pretend you’re in Hawaii. Or you could just be a realist and enjoy the moment wherever you are.

Watermelon Lemonade
6 cups cubed watermelon, frozen
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
3-4 TB powdered sugar

Mix everything together in a blender. Serve immediately with a slice of lemon.
